If I use Microsofts SQL Server Import and export wizard, the import takes 110 (importing all fields as varchar(50), which is the default).

If I import the same file using Alteryx, it takes 415; note that this is just the importing the data, without any calculations etc.

I dont expect Alteryx to be as fast as Microsofts own tool, but the difference is striking.

Thank you, thats extremely useful Using the bulk connector the time drops from 415 to 28 if I read from the txt file and exportdirectly into SQL, and goes up to 54 if I do some data-cleansing in Alteryx before exporting to SQL.

Would changing the transaction size affect the speed of the process I am exporting into new SQL tables and noone else accesses them other than me.

We recommend setting this to at least 1000 records because the database will create a temporary log file for each transaction and temporary space could fill up fast.

For example, if you have transaction size set to 10,000 and record 10,050 of 20,000 records fail, you will have 10,000 records written to the database.

I would assume that the more transactions that are committed (i.e., smaller transaction size), the more SQL Server overhead there could be and the longer it might take.

Again, in some cases the througput seems pretty fast and in other cases, specifically writes to SQL Server it seems MUCH slower than I would expect.

Im back to OLEDB but set transaction to 10000 and its still slow but running a bit better.
